I won’t speak on anything I haven’t lived or experienced.I want to share my journey with you—a journey shaped by trauma, self-doubt, fear, and the resilience that arose from facing these challenges head-on. I consciously choose to reveal my story, even though we may not know each other's trauma, we share a common thread: our fears, our self-doubt, and our demons. In other words, I am you, and you are me. Let’s dive deep—

Why Understanding Trauma Matters
I grew up in a neighborhood where facial expressions meant difference between life and death on some days no exzaduartion —literally. I grew to maintain a façade of strength, wearing a smile like armor. My smile was so effective that it became an involuntary response; people would smile back without realizing they were reacting to the facade I’d created. However, beneath that smile lay a multitude of insecurities and trauma. I grew up in a family of four, where I was the only person of the opposite gender, I will leave my gender to your immagination.
Many of you may not realize, but trauma manifests in various ways—including self-doubt and negativity. As the famous psychologist Bessel van der Kolk said, “The body keeps the score.” Trauma doesn't just disappear; it leaves scars and causes emotional injuries, changing our mindsets in ways that can feel permanent.
Why Should I Care About My Trauma?
I wish I could tell you that my high points—like landing my dream job—erased the whispers of self-doubt and fear that accompany trauma. But accomplishments often offer only fleeting happiness. When I achieved what I thought would be my pinnacle, the happiness I felt lasted mere minutes before self-doubt returned like a haunting ghost. In the words of Dr. Gabor Maté, "Trauma is not what happens to you, but what happens inside you." My accomplishments couldn’t touch these intangible struggles.
How Can I Transition from Being Hunted to Hunter?
As I made my way through life, it became evident that merely acting happy was exhausting. There were countless moments when I would smile, but inside, I was churning with turmoil. Like many, I sought out relationships with people who made me feel "normal.” What I didn’t realize then was that leaning on others for happiness was like weaving a delicate web—a misstep could send me crashing back into my trauma.
"Emotions are contagious," they say. My smile might have lifted others, but it also concealed my internal battles. According to Dr. Brené Brown, vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation and creativity. The hard truth is, when I sought external validation, I lost sight of who I was. I allowed those shadows lurking just behind my consciousness—to dictate my actions and govern my emotions.
What Are the Steps for Personal Healing?
Step One: Acknowledge your trauma. This isn’t about shouting it from the rooftops but engaging in deep introspection. This step can bring painful tears, as the author Elizabeth Gilbert reminds us: “Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions.” Acknowledging buried feelings can feel like unearthing a long-lost treasure—hurtful yet freeing.
The second step intertwines with this acknowledgment: Find your tools. You must equip yourself with the right knowledge, whether through books, support groups, or motivational talks. Not every resource will resonate, but as Dr. Maya Angelou once said, “When you know better, you do better.” Understanding your struggles will anchor you during turbulent moments.
How Can I Nurture My Demons?
Let’s talk about the demons associated with trauma. While often viewed as negative forces, these inner voices can serve as reminders of what we need to confront and overcome. The key lies in changing your mindset around them. Demons can motivate us to change rather than be seen solely as adversaries.
In facing my demons, I recognized that every moment—every struggle—was a call to rise. Remember, you’re not alone in this journey; "You are stronger than you know.” This quote resonates deeply for many and serves as a powerful reminder of our shared human experience.
How Do I Maintain My Growth?
Stepping into my authentic self, devoid of masks, demanded constant effort. Every day is an opportunity to reflect on my emotional state, allowing me to confront trauma proactively. As renowned author Eckhart Tolle said, “Realize deeply that the present moment is all you have.” In your darkest moments, focusing on the present allows healing to happen organically.
It's essential to release expectations of quick results. Transitioning from being hunted to becoming the hunter doesn’t happen overnight. The powerful words of Winston Churchill echo in my mind: “Success is not final; failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.” This mindset, combined with patience, becomes a powerful ally.
Conclusion: Where Do We Go from Here?
What I’ve laid out for you is part of my journey. It’s a pathway, not the final destination. Accepting trauma, arming yourself with the right tools, and shifting your perspective on your demons are all crucial steps toward reclaiming your joy. As the philosopher Nietzsche famously said, “That which does not kill us makes us stronger.”
