I won’t speak on anything I have not lived or experienced. Today, I consciously choose to share a piece of my heart with you, a glimpse into my never ending journey through self-doubt, fear, and vulnerability. We all grapple with those terrifying shadows in our minds—fears and insecurities that echo throughout our lives. But let me tell you this: you are not alone.

While I might not fully understand the specific challenges you're facing, I know self-doubt and fear are the roots of our vulnerabilities. As I reflect on my life, I cannot help but acknowledge how pivotal relationships have been in shaping mine. This story begins with my upbringing—Growing up, I was a well-kept child. My mother, while not most wealthy, made sure that my siblings and I looked our best. This nurturing environment made me feel attractive. You see, when it came to finding a partner, it was never difficult for me. In fact, I had countless suitors at a young age, and that only fuelled the fire. However, each relationship ignited a vulnerability that was tied to my self-worth, happiness, and drive to provide what I deserved for myself.

Every time a relationship ended, it felt like a piece of my happiness and sense of achievement faded away. My self-doubt would swell, wrapping tighter around me like a heavy blanket, pulling me into a cycle of heartbreak and the exhausting task of trying to rebuild myself. I found myself caught in this whirlwind, where my self-worth became inseparably tied to these relationships.

Each breakup hit hard, chipping away at the fragile foundation I had built with every 24 hours i was gifted, leaving me scrambling to regain what I lost. Instead of finding strength in myself, I realized I was subconsciously seeking validations, and with every ending, that validation would slip right through my fingers, deepening the wounds. It was a painful realization—that my self-worth and ability to provide the things I deserved for myself had been dictated by my vulnerabilities and flow of my relationships. “Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage.” – Brené Brown

What is the Foundation of Self-Worth?

The foundation of self-worth is understanding that it should not be dependent upon others. I thought that the bigger my relationship portfolio, the stronger I got with battling my vulnerabilities. However, like a delicate house of cards, each breakup took a piece of my constructed happiness, building a cycle of pain, heartbreak, and a desperate need to rebuild myself with every new 24 hours cycle I am gifted. Each relationship—and every corresponding breakup—felt like yet another earthquake beneath my fragile foundation of self-worth.

How Do Our Vulnerabilities Affect Our Self-Worth?

So why did I keep finding myself in this cycle? Because each relationship seemed to feed into my self-esteem but demanded a price I wasn’t aware I was paying. I convinced myself that finding someone new could patch up my pain, but I soon realized this was just a temporary escape. It became clear that I was using these distractions to push aside the hard work I truly needed to confront. With every breakup, every perceived failure, I lost confidence in myself.

Why Must We Confront Our Vulnerabilities?

How do we learn to accept vulnerabilities and yearn for what we feel we can’t provide for ourselves? Our vulnerabilities can often be traced back to the same parents as failure. Both vulnerabilities and failures stem from self-doubt and fear, lurking like shadows in our subconscious.

Step 1: Identify and Acknowledge

“Have you ever thought about how the very act of avoiding your vulnerabilities is what keeps you feeling trapped? It takes real courage to stop and ask yourself, “What am I afraid of?” This act of self-reflection is crucial. After each breakup, I found myself diving headfirst into new relationships, thinking that finding someone else would erase my pain. Yet, each time I skipped acknowledging my vulnerabilities, I landed in the same painful cycle. We must confront these fears head-on. “The only way to do great work is to love what you do.” —Steve Jobs

How Can Vulnerabilities Become Powerful Tools?

Once you identify your vulnerabilities, they transform from sources of shame into powerful tools for understanding yourself and your experiences. Painful truths often lead to reflection that may feel daunting. Facing painful moments becomes essential for growth. My heartache, every moment spent wrestling with vulnerability, was an opportunity to review my past relationships. This process unearthed valuable lessons, highlighting that we can turn vulnerabilities into stepping stones, not stumbling blocks.

Step 2: Use Your Vulnerabilities as Tools

Identifying your vulnerabilities equips you with the strength to face your next battle. “Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes.” —Oscar Wilde. Personally, my heartache anytime I faced my vulnerabilities transformed into a wise teacher, urging me to delve into my past relationships. This revealed invaluable lessons that became the foundation for my journey moving forward. I learned that step two truly comes alive when we confront our vulnerabilities head-on.

What Happens When We Avoid Our Vulnerability?

What happens if we keep avoiding these uncomfortable truths? We remain entrapped, threading the same patterns of pain without evolving. I realized that avoiding step one only reinforced my cycle of despair. "Your wounds are not your fault, but healing is your responsibility."

Reflecting on past relationships allowed me to reclaim my narrative. By acknowledging how my self-worth had been dictated by my vulnerabilities, I paved the way for a profound shift in thought. My identity needed to be my own, unhindered by the scars of past partnerships. Self-awareness opened up a fresh 24-hour cycle filled with new opportunities for growth.

How Can We Move Forward from Self-Doubt?

Integrating self-reflection and embracing vulnerability means constructing a foundation rooted in understanding, acceptance, and personal power. “As you learn to accept your flaws and imperfections, you become the best version of yourself.” —Stephen O. McLennon

You see, now I find the strength to rise after each downfall. I am committed to leveraging my vulnerabilities and self-doubt as tools for change and self-improvement. Each challenge becomes a fresh moment to explore who I truly am and the life I deserve.

Conclusion

I, " 3′ King’s " have equipped myself with tools to fight back against self-doubt and vulnerability. If and when I stumble again, I won’t stay down for long. I will rise with greater strength, ready to embrace life and its lessons—because I am a self-leader; my vulnerabilities cannot lead me—N0!.
